Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Young earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Duke University. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in child and adolescent mood disorders at the Ohio State University and joined Johns Hopkins University as a faculty member in 2015. Dr. Young has received funding from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Her research focuses on investigating predictors, correlates, and long-term outcomes of initiation of and engagement in children’s mental health services, particularly among racially minoritized populations and youth at risk for mood disorders. The goal of this program of research is to contribute to inform policy and development of targeted interventions to improve overall and equitable access to quality services and children’s long-term psychosocial outcomes.

Dr. Young has been active in efforts to promote workforce diversity and health equity throughout her time at Johns Hopkins and, in 2021, became the School of Medicine Assistant Dean for Graduate Biomedical Education and Graduate Student Diversity, where she serves as a mentor, advocate and advisor to trainees in the biomedical sciences and works to promote a culture of inclusive excellence.
